Tax and Calculator Updates

What changed on this site, why, and when — sourced and dated.

Last updated: July 2026

This page lists formula, rate, and legal changes we have applied to GSTCalculators.in's calculators and central rate registry. Entries are listed newest first. See our Methodology page for how rates are sourced, and our Editorial Policy for how corrections are handled.

GST Rate Change Tracker

This section pulls together, in one place, every GST rate/slab change reflected on this site — a focused view for anyone tracking GST specifically, rather than reading the full mixed changelog below. Every GST-related entry elsewhere on this page also appears here; this is a filtered view, not a second, separate log.

Effective DateChangeSource
22 Sep 2025Slab structure simplified to 0% / 5% / 18% / 40% (plus 3% gold, 0.25% rough diamonds). 12% and 28% slabs withdrawn for new invoices; kept in a clearly-labelled legacy mode across GST calculators for reconciling older invoices.GST Council 56th Meeting (3 Sep 2025) / CBIC rate notifications
1 Feb 2026Pan masala and most tobacco products moved to the 40% slab on Retail Sale Price (RSP), replacing the earlier compensation-cess-based structure for these items.CBIC notification (as reflected in the site's GST calculator FAQ content)

This table lists changes actually applied to this site's calculators, each with the date it took effect. It is not a substitute for the official CBIC GST rate finder for a binding classification of a specific product. Last reviewed: 25 July 2026.

July 2026

Security hardening of the rate registry. The site's central rate file was converted from a JavaScript file (rules-data.js, loaded via a synchronous XHR + eval()) to strict JSON (rules-data.json, loaded the same way but parsed with JSON.parse()). Runtime behaviour is unchanged; this removes an eval() call from the codebase. No calculator formula or figure changed as part of this update.

Trust and compliance pages added. Terms of Service, Disclaimer, Editorial Policy, Methodology, and this Updates page were added and linked from the site footer, as part of a review of the site's trust and compliance content.

1 April 2026 — Tax Year 2026-27 Changes

Income-tax Act, 2025 takes effect, replacing the Income-tax Act, 1961. "Assessment Year" terminology is retired in favour of "Tax Year." Section 80C is renumbered to Section 123 (Schedule XV); the deduction limit itself is unchanged. Source: Income-tax Act, 2025 (enacted 21 Aug 2025).

HRA 8-city rule takes effect. The Income-tax Rules, 2026 extend the 50%-of-basic HRA exemption limit to Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad, joining the original four metros (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai) — eight cities in total from Tax Year 2026-27 onward. The four newly added cities remain at 40% for FY 2025-26 filings. Our HRA calculator lets you pick the tax year and applies the correct city list and rule for that year rather than defaulting to the newer rule. Source: Income-tax Rules, 2026, read with the Income-tax Act, 2025 — multiple independent secondary sources describe this as Rule 279; we have not independently confirmed the rule number against the primary gazette notification, and treat that specific number as unconfirmed pending direct verification.

22 September 2025 — GST 2.0

GST slab structure simplified. Following the 56th GST Council meeting (3 Sep 2025), the previous 0%/5%/12%/18%/28% slab structure was replaced with 0%/5%/18%/40% as the primary structure, with gold retained at 3% and rough diamonds at 0.25%. The 12% and 28% slabs were withdrawn; most 12% items moved to 5%, most 28% items moved to 18% or, for select luxury and "sin" goods, to the new 40% slab. Our GST calculators were updated to reflect the new slabs, with the withdrawn slabs kept available and clearly labelled for reconciling older, pre-22-Sep-2025 invoices. How Entries Are Added to This Page

We add an entry here only for a change that actually happened on the site — a real update to a formula, a rate in the central registry, or a legal-basis citation. We do not pre-announce planned changes here before they are applied, and we do not backfill an entry for a change we cannot confirm actually occurred with a real source and date.

Spot Something Missing or Wrong?

If a rate or rule changed and you don’t see it reflected here or on the relevant calculator, please tell us at contact@toolsmasterhub.store or via the "Report an error" link on the calculator page.
